Case Study 6

An 11-year-old, right-handed female was diagnosed with relapsing MS using the latest (2017) McDonald criteria. She had presented with weakness and clumsiness in the right upper extremity that was most noticeable when using her computer mouse or playing the piano. At the time of presentation, there was no history of recent trauma or febrile illness. There was a questionable history of possible sensory disturbances involving the left leg over the preceding year. MRI revealed 2 contrast-enhancing T1 lesions in the cervical spine and multiple hyperintense T2 lesion in the brain (periventricular and juxtacortical). CSF analysis showed 6 oligoclonal bands. Serum was negative for antibodies against aquaporin-4 and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein.
